There are some things in life that we would never do. But there’s one thing on our list that might be the most difficult of them all: to actually go to Vietnam. There is no doubt it was a great war, but I guarantee many others would rather not visit so as not to feel some type of way about what has been done, or take part in any kind of history lesson about it. I can say I am one of those people. Despite not wanting to go, there are others who wish for the opportunity to visit Vietnam.
The first thing that pops into my mind when I think about Vietnam is the movie Forrest Gump. We all watched that movie, and even if you didn’t like it, we all know what it’s about. It’s a great movie that has a lot of meaning behind it. However, I don’t think many will agree with me when I say that sitting down in Tim’s mom’s living room watching Forrest Gump made us all want to go to Vietnam.
I guess you could say the same thing is true for The Hangover. Although I don’t think anyone ever went to a wedding and asked if they could go to Vietnam. Most people probably went to their hotels and got drunk before the first day of their honeymoons was over.
The main reason that most people would want to visit Vietnam is because of the history behind it, especially Vietnam War veterans. They fought hard in this war and deserve the respect that they should be getting today. There are some who are visiting Vietnam today, but it’s not for the right reasons. They say that after being there, they are glad they didn’t go to Vietnam.
The main reason for this is because most of the country is still dirty and poor. I mean living conditions have improved, but in reality, it’s still not on a level where tourists would want to be at. The history of war won’t be around forever so visiting Vietnam soon will be a great way to experience it as well as give back to the people who lived there during the war years.
